College Students Build Elaborate Shrine To Dead Cockroach

Students saddened by the sight of a dead cockroach in a Texas A&M University stairwell made her an elaborate shrine before cremating the body. The roach, named “Rosie,” was left unattended in the anthropology building for two weeks, according to a post on Imgur by user jimmyevil.

“Some enterprising person has now made her a little shrine,” he said, adding that an unidentified professor initially posted the pictures to Facebook.

Rosie was first placed on a starry blue and pink piece of paper, next to a pink tombstone. The tributes grew as students (probably) realized what she’d meant to them.
Cigarettes, flowers, stones, notes and coins were all placed next to her corpse in the following days. A poster reading “never forget” was also added, while a Post-It note said, “You were always there to say hello to me in the morning, Rosie! We will miss you.”

A funeral pyre was then placed next to her body, and Rosie was pictured being cremated on Thursday afternoon.

A similar impromptu memorial was created for a dead raccoonfound on a sidewalk in Toronto, Canada, last summer.
