The 15th Annual Cinco de Mayo Festival will expand to include a  third day of live entertainment during Northern Nevada’s largest celebration of Hispanic heritage. Event gates will open on Friday, May 2, at 3:00 p.m. and again at Noon on Saturday and Sunday, May 3-4, at Grand Sierra Resort.

Ongoing entertainment for all ages will run until 8:00 p.m. all three days. World of Amusement will operate 16 carnival rides until 10:00 p.m. Admission and access to all scheduled entertainment is only $5.00 for ages 12-65, children under 12 and seniors are free. Paid admission on Friday will include a free taco from Tijuana Style Tacos.


On-going entertainment on multiple stages includes live Latin music, dance performances and popular local DJs. The crowning of Miss Cinco de Mayo 2014 will be held on Sunday after four weeks of competition in a variety of journalism disciplines. Mexican dancing horses will perform from 2:00-4:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Wells Fargo will provide free face painting. Over 100 vendors will offer games, prizes, specialty items, clothes, art, crafts, community information, Mexican food and other cuisine in Grand Sierra Resort's north parking lot.


ARCE Boxing Club will again host amateur boxing bouts daily. The local non-profit boxing club for at-risk teenagers has already produced five national champions since inception in 2002.  For more information on ARCE, call (775) 829-0203.


Headlining this year's entertainment line-up will be Los Tremendous de Mexico (Friday), La Raza Obrera and Efrain Elizade (Saturday), Los Morros del Norte and Banda Los del Pueblo (Sunday).


A portion of the proceeds from the event will be donated to benefit the Hispanic Youth Leadership Summits hosted by Las Culturas, a Latin American student organization at the University of Nevada, Reno's Center for Cultural Diversity and Washoe County School District. Hispanic high school students from Washoe and Douglas County are provided a campus tour, lunch and orientation twice a year to help them and their parents learn more about opportunities for higher education.
