Kristen Bell To Host 2018 Screen Actors Guild Awards

Breaking with tradition, Screen Actors Guild Awards committee has announced that the 2018 ceremony will be hosted by Kristen Bell. The SAG Awards have never before had an emcee before, but executive producer Kathy Connell announced on Monday that Bell will take the reins of the 2018 ceremony on Sunday, Jan. 21. “We are delighted to have Kristen Bell as the first-ever host of the SAG Awards,” Connell said in a statement. 

Lin-Manuel Miranda and Wife Vanessa Expecting Second Child

Lin-Manuel Miranda and his wife Vanessa Nadal are expecting their second child, he confirmed Sunday on Twitter. The Tony-winning creator of Hamilton and his wife stepped out on the red carpet at the 2017 London Evening Standard Theatre Awards, with Nadal sporting what appeared to be a baby bump. Miranda and Vandal are already parents to 3-year-old son, Sebastian. The couple was married in 2010.

Geoffrey Rush Steps Down From Australian Film Academy Following Claim Of ‘Inappropriate Behavior’

Geoffrey Rush has stepped down from his position as president of the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts after a claim of “inappropriate behavior” by the “Pirates of the Caribbean” actor surfaced this week. The Associated Press and Australian media reported Saturday. Rush announced his decision after the Sydney Theatre Company “received a complaint alleging that Mr. Geoffrey Rush had engaged in inappropriate behavior” during his time with the company.  Although further details about the complaint have not been made public, the actor has pushed back against allegations of any past misbehavior. 

Russell Simmons Steps Down from Companies After Second Sexual Assault Accusation

Russell Simmons is stepping down from his companies, including hip-hop label Def Jam and his clothing brands, after screenwriter Jenny Lumet accused him of sexual assault in a guest column for The Hollywood Reporter on Thursday.  In a statement obtained in an email by Vanity Fair, Simmons apologized to Lumet and announced that he plans to “step aside and commit myself to continuing my personal growth, spiritual learning, and, above all to listening.”

Jim Nabors, Singer and ‘Gomer Pyle’ Star, Dead at 87

Jim Nabors, the actor known for his role as the beloved “Gomer Pyle” on television comedies and for his booming operatic voice, has died. He was 87. Nabors, who starred as Gomer Pyle on “The Andy Griffith Show” in the early 1960s and went on to have his own spinoff show, died Thursday,  Husband Stan Cadwallader, who was by his side, told The Associated Press that Nabors died peacefully in his home in Hawaii.
